The San Diego County Sheriff confirmed Wednesday that a student has been detained on suspicion of making several threats towards Meadowbrook Middle School.
According to SDCS, on Sunday evening, school administrators contacted authorities about an email sent to school staff. In the email, an individual made threats to commit acts of violence at school the following day.
Deputies immediately began investigating the email, and on Monday, they remained on the Meadowbrook Middle School campus for the entire day out of caution. The threats made on Sunday evening turned out to be unfounded, SDCS says.
On Tuesday morning around 7 a.m., staff at the middle school reportedly received another email stating that a bomb had been placed on campus.
Deputies arrived at the middle school shortly after staff received the email and began searching the campus for suspicious objects, according to SDCS. Meanwhile, administrators placed the school on lockdown, and deputies turned away students who had not yet arrived on campus.
Deputies and units from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) searched the campus with explosives detection K-9s. After an extensive search, no explosives were found, according to SDCS. The lockdown was then lifted, and the school returned to its normal schedule.

Later that evening, SDCS was contacted by parents who had seen a video on social media that was reportedly related to the threats at the middle school. SDCS says that during that investigation, deputies identified a student from the school who was linked to a social media account that allegedly distributed the video.
On Wednesday, deputies reportedly contacted the suspect student at school and detained them for allegedly making criminal threats.
Detectives later served a search warrant at the student’s home, which revealed evidence that the student allegedly created the video alone.
SDCS says there is currently no threat to Meadowbrook Middle School students or staff.
