On the heels of Valentine’s Day 2026 comes Presidents Day.

Officially known as «Washington’s Birthday,» it was the first holiday to be named after an individual president. It was established in 1879 to honor George Washington but has since expanded to celebrate all U.S. presidents.

But will the stock market and banks be open on Presidents Day? Here’s what you need to know.

When is Presidents Day 2026?

Presidents Day will be observed on Monday, Feb. 16, 2026. The holiday falls on the third Monday in February each year and is held around President Washington’s birthday (Feb. 22, 1732).

According to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, Presidents Day is a federal holiday. Both the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq Stock Market will be closed.

Here are the NYSE holiday hours for the rest of the year. Nasdaq follows the same hours and holiday schedule:

  • Washington’s Birthday/Presidents Day: Closed (Monday, Feb. 16)
  • Good Friday: Closed (Friday, April 3)
  • Memorial Day: Closed (Monday, May 25)
  • Juneteenth: Closed (Friday, June 19)
  • Independence Day: Closed (Observed Friday, July 3)
  • Labor Day: Closed (Monday, Sept. 7)
  • Thanksgiving Day: Closed (Thursday, Nov. 26; closes at 1 p.m. ET Nov. 27)
  • Christmas Day: Closed (Friday, Dec. 25; closes at 1 p.m. ET Dec. 24)
