Danger averted by quick action after Kingman gas leak

A gas leak that could have led to a dangerous situation was quickly fixed in Kingman on Thursday.

According to the Kingman Fire Department, crews arrived at Main Street and Avenue A around 5:20 p.m.

At the scene, Kansas Gas Service told firefighters that dangerously high levels of gas were coming from a building.

Firefighters quickly evacuated the area, blocked traffic and cut power to the area until gas crews could find the source of the leak.

Kansas Gas determined which building the leak was coming from and turned off the system to prevent further leaking.

The fire department said no injuries were reported, and the building wasn’t occupied at the time.
