Puppy mills and backyard breeding are contributing to the global stray animal crisis, overwhelming animal shelters and driving up pet care costs.
Puppy mills and backyard breeding are largely to blame for the stray animal crisis that’s spreading around the world. Animal shelters are overwhelmed and understaffed, all while the cost of pet care continues to rise. Discovering a local puppy mill can be distressing for anyone, but two sisters faced an incredible challenge when they learned that a family member ran a puppy mill from their garage.
@Fionagracexx and her sister rescued over 40 Border Collie dogs and puppies from their family member’s garage before sending them to an Indiana dog rescue called Clancy’s Dream. The breed-specific rescue helped every dog find a loving forever home, and now the selfless sisters can look back on their act of bravery with pride.
It’s heartbreaking to think of 40 dogs crammed together in a garage, but that’s the tragic reality of puppy mills. Dogs’ health and comfort are never prioritized, and the same dogs are often bred repeatedly. Thanks to Fiona and her sister, however, these rescued Border Collies can start thinking about much happier things, like naps and dog treats.
«A Border Collie puppy mill is insane,» commented @frychoactive. «Dogs meant for miles and miles of open space are confined to pens and bred endlessly. Thank you so much for saving them.»

This brave dog rescue mission happened 4 years ago, and it’s heartwarming to see how many viewers are still offering their assistance. Fiona reassured commenters, «We would do it again in a heartbeat,» though everyone hopes they never have to. Dogs shouldn’t be put into this position in the first place!
