Woman Makes ‘Devastating’ Decision to End Engagement

Madison Waller knew her engagement had to end, but didn’t know where else to go from there, especially since she and her ex-fiancé lived together

Unsure what to do, she called her best friend, who offered a quick solution

Waller tells PEOPLE it «turned out to be one of the best moments of my life»

Madison Waller never knew that the day she ended her engagement, she would meet someone special.

“I’m talking about one of the most devastating moments of my life, which turned out to be one of the best moments of my life,” Waller tells PEOPLE.

“I was previously engaged and I had been engaged for over a year to someone that I was with for four years. It was an abrupt ending of the engagement,» she explains.

While it «was a very difficult situation,» she notes that the «really hard decision» was «made thoughtfully and with a lot of respect for us both.»

After calling off her wedding, Waller immediately called her best friend. She explained that she planned to move into a hotel for a month or two before finding a new apartment. However, her friend had a different idea.

“She’s like, ‘Don’t do that. My friend Fitz Tepper lives in the city. He’s so nice,'» Waller recalls. «I looked so bad that day. I hadn’t been eating. I had been crying. I’m like, ‘Okay, he’s going to look at me and think, «What the hell is wrong with this chick?»‘ »

When she showed up at his apartment with her ring box in hand, she was shocked by his kindness.

“He immediately gave me the biggest hug,» she shares.

Still, Waller notes that she «wasn’t gonna sit there and talk to him about it.»

«I went to the room that I sleep in now, which is crazy, sobbing my eyes out. My sister sat down with him, told him what happened,» she recalls.
