McMaster-Carr thriving despite corporate sale of Aurora building

A longtime business in Aurora «continues to thrive» even as the property the company leases recently was sold.

McMaster-Carr, which has operated in Aurora for more than 30 years, recently renovated and expanded its facility at 200 Aurora Industrial Parkway, Mayor Ann Womer Benjamin said.

The warehouse the business leases recently was sold for $27.5 million to NorthPoint Development in Kansas City. Womer Benjamin said property transfers like the one involving McMaster-Carr’s building are common in the commercial market.

«We see this building purchase as a positive sign for Aurora because it demonstrates the appeal of Aurora’s commercial real estate to investors and the credit worthiness of McMaster-Carr as a tenant,» Womer Bejamin stated in an email.

«McMaster-Carr has been in Aurora since 1995 and is one of our largest employers in the Aurora Industrial Park, although the exact number of employees is proprietary information within the company,» the mayor stated. «It is a family-owned business which has operations in Aurora, Ohio; Chicago, Illinois; Los Angeles, California; the Philadelphia/New York region; Atlanta, Georgia; and a new operation in Fort Worth, Texas.»

She referred specific questions about the plant’s operations to Craig Perkins, facilities regional manager for McMaster-Carr in Aurora. Perkins did not respond to emails seeking comment.

McMaster-Carr, which manufactures hardware, tools, raw materials and maintenance equipment, moved into its current building in 2018, shortly after its construction. Last year, the building’s employee parking lot was expanded, and the cafeteria and lounge areas were expanded and remodeled.
