Shawnee County Commissioner Aaron Mays joined the 27 News Morning Show on Friday to chat about summer jobs and the Gage Park master plan.
Mays said that people can start applying now for summer jobs to help Shawnee County Parks and Recreation maintain its concession stands and pools once the 2025-2026 school year ends. He also encourages people to check out the many other work opportunities the county has to offer.
“So, we are accepting applications right now on our website for lifeguards, cashiers, like all those things I just said and then, you know, any other county job as well,” Mays said. “So, we need everything from trash collectors to 911 dispatch, that’s a really big need right now as well, that is something that, you know, is an integral part of our safety net in the community and so we want to make sure we’ve got good people in there.”
Mays also touched on the Gage Park master plan. He encourages people to give their feedback on the plan to help guide the continued vision for the park.
“Yeah, so, Parks and Rec is working on a master plan right now and we are wanting community feedback, as much as we can get actually,” Mays said. “So, they’re kind of in a fact-finding phase of that plan right now and what we’re doing… the last time we did a master plan was back in 2014 I believe it is, and so it was set to be a 10-year plan. We’re now 12 years after that, so its really time to do that.”
