Texas-born chicken joint snags top marks on national foodie hotlist

Although Texas typically tows in recognition for its beloved barbecue, the state’s fiendish fancy for fried chicken ain’t nothing to shake a finger at — especially when it comes to Layne’s Chicken Fingers, a Texas-born joint that just landed on a national foodie hotlist.

According to Restaurant Business’ annual «The Future 50» list, Layne’s came in sixth place as one of the nation’s leading «up-and-comers,» a standout for service industry success.

The list includes 49 other «hot concepts,» compiled by the publication’s editorial team and its partnered data firm, Technomic.

Founded in 1994 by Mike Layne in College Station, Layne’s earned praise from the national tastemaker for its rapid expansion after it began franchising locations under Texas A&M grad Mike Garratt’s lead.

«Layne’s Chicken Fingers is all about chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries and Texas toast, as well as sandwiches, dipping sauces and shakes,» the publication wrote.
