Gulf Coast authorities are investigating the drowning death of 75-year-old Kathleen Lundy after her body washed ashore a popular destination for Texas beachgoers.
A Tuesday news release said Lundy’s remains were recovered on South Padre Island on Tuesday approximately a quarter mile north of County Beach Access #6, KRGV reported.
According to the report, Lundy’s sister stated that Lundy «had gone out for a swim» before her body was discovered. The Express-News confirmed Cameron County park rangers responded to the scene.Later, Lundy’s body was transported to the South Padre Island Fire Department, the report said. There, Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1 Benito Ochoa reportedly pronounced Lundy dead.Neither the Cameron County Park Rangers, the South Padre Island Fire Department nor Ochoa immediately responded to Express-News request for comment on the nature of Lundy’s death.
However, in a statement to MySA, Ochoa highlighted the importance of safety while swimming on the Gulf Coast.
«Bodies of water like the Gulf of Mexico, they are very powerful, and they are very unforgiving at times. And it’s good to enjoy them, but water safety is also top priority whenever we’re in the water,» he said.According to the National Weather Service, Lundy is at least the seventh person to drown off Texas Gulf Coast shores this year.
